Nigerian Navy Hands Over 372 Bags of Seized Rice to Customs in BadagryThe Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, handed over a total of 372 bags of seized foreign parboiled rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as part of ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and other cross-border economic crimes.The handover followed a series of targeted anti-smuggling operations conducted by personnel of FOB Badagry in line with the Nigerian Navy’s constitutional mandate to support civil authorities in safeguarding the nation’s economy.According to the Navy, 302 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice were formally transferred to the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, while the remaining 70 bags of 50kg were handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service, Western Marine Command, for further necessary action in accordance with extant laws and procedures.The Nigerian Navy stated that the exercise was conducted in strict compliance with its Standard Operating Procedures, underscoring its commitment to inter-agency cooperation in addressing smuggling and other transnational crimes along Nigeria’s maritime and border corridors.Since assuming office, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has consistently emphasized the need for a professional and responsive naval force working closely with sister services and other security agencies to protect Nigeria’s maritime interests. In line with this strategic vision, FOB Badagry has sustained operational pressure within its area of responsibility to deny smugglers freedom of action.The Base noted that its operations are not only focused on securing Nigeria’s maritime domain and adjoining land areas, but also on strengthening relationships with host communities, sister services and relevant stakeholders. This collaborative approach, the Navy said, remains critical to effectively tackling smuggling, transactional crimes and other activities that pose threats to the nation’s economic stability.The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its resolve to continue supporting civil authorities and maintaining a strong presence along Nigeria’s coastal and border areas to ensure national security and economic protection.
