Nigerian Navy Hands Over Seized Rice to Customs in BadagryThe Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, handed over a total of 372 bags of seized foreign parboiled rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as part of ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and other cross-border economic crimes.The handover followed a series of targeted anti-smuggling operations conducted by personnel of FOB Badagry in line with the Nigerian Navy’s mandate to support civil authorities in safeguarding the nation’s economy.Speaking at the event, the Commanding Officer, Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Badagry, Navy Captain BO Omotayo, explained that the handover was carried out in strict compliance with Nigerian Navy Standard Operating Procedures. He disclosed that 302 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice were handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, while an additional 70 bags of 50kg were transferred to the Nigeria Customs Service, Western Marine Command, for further necessary action.Navy Captain Omotayo noted that the operation reflects the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation and effective maritime security. He added that since assuming office, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has consistently emphasized the need for a professional naval force dedicated to protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests in close collaboration with sister security agencies.According to him, the sustained operational activities of FOB Badagry are aimed at securing Nigeria’s maritime domain and adjoining land areas through professionalism, dedication, and strong partnerships with host communities, sister services, and other security agencies.The Nigerian Navy reiterated its resolve to continue supporting national efforts to curb smuggling, transactional crimes, and other activities that pose a threat to the country’s economic stability.
