Oyo State Government Orders Reopening of Schools in Oriire, Other LGAs
The Oyo State Government has directed the reopening of schools in Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere, and Olorunsogo local government areas beginning Monday, following the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected communities.
The decision was announced after a comprehensive security review conducted by the state government in response to the recent security incident reported in Ahoro-Esinele community, which had raised concerns among parents, teachers, and residents within the affected areas.
Speaking on behalf of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, said the state government remains fully committed to ensuring that every child has access to education in a safe and secure environment.
According to him, the reopening directive followed assurances from security agencies that adequate measures have been put in place to protect lives and property across the affected local government areas.
Dr. Adeniran disclosed that additional security operatives have now been strategically deployed to schools and vulnerable communities in the axis to strengthen surveillance and maintain peace before, during, and after school hours.
He explained that the coordinated efforts of security agencies working under the directives of the Commissioner of Police have significantly improved security monitoring within the affected communities, thereby creating a conducive atmosphere for the resumption of academic activities.
The OYOSUBEB chairman stressed that the welfare, safety, and academic progress of pupils and teachers remain a top priority of the administration, adding that government would continue to work closely with local authorities, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and security agencies to sustain peace in the affected areas.
He further urged parents and guardians not to panic over the development, assuring them that government is closely monitoring the security situation and will continue to provide timely updates whenever necessary.
Dr. Adeniran also warned against the spread of unverified information and rumours capable of creating fear or tension among residents, noting that misinformation could undermine ongoing efforts by security agencies and government officials to restore normalcy fully.
Residents of the affected local government areas have also been encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could help maintain law and order within their communities.
The reopening of schools is expected to restore normal academic activities across Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere, and Olorunsogo local government areas after temporary disruptions caused by security concerns in parts of the zone.
Education stakeholders have described the move as a welcome development, expressing optimism that the strengthened security presence would reassure parents, teachers, and pupils as schools resume operations on Monday.
The state government reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives of residents while ensuring that educational activities continue uninterrupted across all parts of the state.
