The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially issued a notice for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
This announcement complies with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates that election notices be issued well in advance.
According to INEC, the nomination process for candidates will be conducted through its online portal, and physical submissions must be made at its headquarters in Abuja. Election day proceedings will commence at 8:30 a.m. across all polling units in the FCT. Only registered voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be allowed to participate, as the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for voter verification.
INEC has urged political parties, candidates, and voters to familiarize themselves with the electoral guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
