Ogundoyin Praises Makinde’s 2026 Budget as Ambitious and People-Centered

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has described Governor Seyi Makinde’s 2026 budget proposal as ambitious, people-centered, and strategically aligned with the state’s development priorities.

Speaking during the formal presentation of the budget, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin commended the Governor for his visionary leadership and noted that the fiscal document reflects a bold direction toward human capital development and economic growth.

He highlighted that the budget, totaling ₦891.98 billion, focuses heavily on capital projects, with infrastructure receiving ₦210 billion, education ₦155 billion, and health ₦70 billion. The remaining allocations support multi-sectoral interventions to promote inclusive development across Oyo State.

“The 2026 Budget Proposal is the outcome of extensive stakeholder engagements across all seven geopolitical zones, ensuring that the voices, needs, and aspirations of our people genuinely reflect in the fiscal priorities for the year ahead,” Ogundoyin said.

The Speaker assured the Governor of the Legislature’s continued cooperation in timely passage and effective oversight of the budget. He emphasized the 10th Assembly’s achievements in the past two years, including passing 32 impactful bills, receiving 110 committee reports, moving 125 motions, and adopting over 500 resolutions addressing socio-economic issues.

Ogundoyin also drew attention to the demands of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), urging prompt action on staff welfare issues such as CONLESS review, remuneration for deputy clerks, full legislative autonomy, and renovation of the House complex.

He concluded by reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that every naira appropriated in the 2026 fiscal year translates into meaningful development for the people of Oyo State.
