The Centre for Public Accountability and Social Well-Being has raised the alarm over what it described as a series of alleged violent attacks on the Ojaekomo Family of Sapata Village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, and its development partner, Shaffykay & Co. Property Limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a press conference held in Lagos on Wednesday alleged that the attacks were being carried out by individuals linked to Bashiru Fakorede over a parcel of land it said was formally allocated to the Ojaekomo Family by the Lagos State Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the group, the situation had escalated in the past week, with alleged attacks on the property, arrests of members of the Ojaekomo family and the destruction of buildings on the disputed land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation recalled that it had addressed the press on August 10, 2026, over concerns surrounding the property, but alleged that the situation had since deteriorated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It claimed that members of the Ojaekomo Family and Shaffykay had been arrested on what it described as \u201ctrumped-up\u201d allegations, including alleged possession of firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group further alleged that, during an incident at the property, some individuals accompanied by police officers arrested members of the family and that firearms were subsequently produced at the police command and allegedly attributed to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said the alleged incident was eventually questioned following the intervention of a senior police officer who was familiar with the circumstances surrounding the dispute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation also alleged that on Saturday, August 15, individuals said to be acting with Fakorede launched an attack on the property and demolished buildings belonging to the Ojaekomo Family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Centre condemned the alleged destruction and called on the Lagos State Government and security agencies to take immediate steps to prevent further violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dispute Over Court Proceedings
The organisation also disputed claims concerning a purported court decision affecting the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It alleged that a recent statement suggesting that the Lagos State Government allocation to the Ojaekomo Family had been vacated by a ruling of the Lagos State High Court was inaccurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the group, the Ojaekomo Family has challenged the ruling through an appeal and filed an application for a stay of execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation cited previous judicial authorities, including Ezenwo v. Festus (No. 1) and Ezegbu v. F.A.T.B., in support of its position on proceedings relating to appeals and applications for stay of execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It maintained that the land dispute should be resolved through the courts and other lawful mechanisms rather than through force or intimidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group also expressed concern over what it described as the alleged use of security personnel to advance competing interests in the land dispute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Calls for Urgent Intervention
The Centre has called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Lagos State Governor, the Attorney-General of Lagos State and other relevant authorities to intervene urgently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It specifically demanded adequate security around the disputed property to protect lives and property, an investigation into the alleged destruction of buildings and forcible entry onto the land, and an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deployment and withdrawal of security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also called for an investigation into the alleged activities of Bashiru Fakorede and other individuals connected to the dispute, particularly where such activities could threaten public peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation said the Ojaekomo Family remained willing to pursue the matter through lawful channels and would comply with valid court orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Ojaekomo Family is not afraid of litigation. It is already participating in litigation. It will obey lawful orders of the courts,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Centre maintained that while parties to the dispute were entitled to seek legal redress, no individual or group had the right to take possession of disputed property through violence.
It urged the security agencies to take preventive action before the situation escalates further, warning that any further violence could endanger lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation concluded by urging the authorities to ensure that the rule of law prevails and that the ongoing dispute is resolved through lawful and peaceful means.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
