BON also praised the security agencies for providing adequate security during the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation said the security arrangements helped minimise tension and criminality during the electoral process, contributing to a relatively peaceful environment for voters and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, BON said the positive assessment of the election should not overshadow the need to address electoral offences committed during the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Call for Prosecution of Electoral Offenders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The broadcasting organisation called on INEC and other relevant authorities to ensure that persons who committed electoral offences are prosecuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BON argued that prosecution of electoral offenders would serve as a deterrent and strengthen compliance with Nigeria’s electoral laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is imperative that INEC ensures the prosecution of all persons who perpetrated electoral crimes, to serve as a deterrent to others,\u201d the organisation said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BON therefore urged INEC and other relevant agencies to ensure strict enforcement of electoral laws and the prosecution of all offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation’s position comes as attention shifts from the conduct of the Osun election to the broader question of how lessons from the poll can be applied to improve future elections in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
