According to Governor Makinde, while no government should be exempt from scrutiny, the use of institutions such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to target specific states or public office holders creates the impression of selective investigations and weakens public trust in anti-corruption agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The governor further argued that the freezing of an official state government account without due legal process exceeds the powers vested in the EFCC under Nigerian law. He also questioned the timing of the action, suggesting it could be perceived as an attempt to influence the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Makinde urged federal institutions to remain faithful to their constitutional responsibilities by acting with fairness, professionalism, and political neutrality at all times. He also called on Nigerians, civil society organisations, and the international community to remain vigilant, stressing that democracy cannot thrive where institutions are perceived as instruments of political intimidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
