The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) has inaugurated the Technical Working Group (TWG) on the introduction of the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine into the State\u2019s Routine Immunization (RI) schedule, marking another milestone in its commitment to improving child health and reducing vaccine preventable diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inauguration, held at The Zone Hub, Plot 9, Gbagada-Oworonshoki Express Way, also featured the 2025 Quarter 3 Routine Immunization Review Meeting, brought together key stakeholders from the health sector, development partners, and representatives from health districts across the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, mni, described the occasion as a defining moment in Lagos\u2019 public health journey. He emphasized that the introduction of the MR vaccine represents \u201ca bold step towards protecting our children from the dual threats of measles and rubella,\u201d noting that each vaccine dose \u201cis a promise kept, a promise that no child will suffer or die from any preventable disease.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Mustafa highlighted that the newly inaugurated Technical Working Group will serve as the engine room for coordinating planning, logistics, training, and communication for the MR vaccine rollout, ensuring that the process is seamless, data-driven, and impactful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further commended the collective efforts of the health family and partners including the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, CHAI, and IVAC, among others, for their continued support in strengthening the State\u2019s immunization systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her welcome remarks, the Director of Medical Services and Disease Control, Dr. Veronica Iwayemi, reaffirmed that the introduction of the MR vaccine is \u201cnot just another activity on the calendar but a major leap forward\u201d in the State\u2019s efforts to safeguard children. She urged stakeholders to sustain collaboration and innovation in addressing identified gaps and improving immunization coverage across all local government areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Permanent Secretary, while appreciating the leadership of Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, reiterated that the administration\u2019s vision of \u201ca healthy Lagos for a productive population\u201d continues to drive strategic investments in health infrastructure and system strengthening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Mustafa officially inaugurated the Technical Working Group, charging members to serve with diligence, innovation, and integrity, and to ensure that their work translates into healthier children and stronger immunization outcomes for all Lagosians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
