Kampala, Uganda<\/em> \u2013 Ugandan authorities have launched an investigation into the death of Nigerian professional footballer Abubakar Lawal, who allegedly fell from a shopping mall in the capital, Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The 29-year-old striker, who played for Vipers Sports Club, reportedly fell from the third-floor balcony at Voicemall Shopping Arcade, where he had gone to visit a Tanzanian friend, identified as Omary Naima. According to police reports, Naima had left Lawal in her room\u2014part of the mall\u2019s complex\u2014preparing tea before the tragic incident occurred. He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vipers Sports Club expressed its grief over Lawal\u2019s passing, describing him as a \u201cunique person with a heart of gold.\u201d The club acknowledged his contribution to their league and cup double victory in 2023.
