The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has refuted claims that it imported over 200 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in February 2025, describing the allegations as false and misleading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, the company dismissed the report as either the result of \u201clazy and unprofessional journalism\u201d or a \u201cdeliberate, sponsored attempt by economic saboteurs to mislead the public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNNPC Limited has not imported a single litre of PMS in 2025,\u201d the statement read. \u201cWe do not control the import activities of private marketers, nor do we issue import licenses. Attributing all PMS imports to NNPC is not just misleading\u2014it is outright deceptive and irresponsible journalism that ignores basic fact-checking principles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company clarified that while it has not imported PMS this year, it retains the legal right to do so if necessary to stabilize the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs Nigeria\u2019s foremost energy company, we have a duty to ensure energy security. Should any supply shortages arise, NNPC Limited retains the full right and responsibility to step in and import to stabilize the market,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NNPC condemned the spread of misinformation, stating that it distorts market realities and misleads key stakeholders. The company also warned that it would take legal measures against those responsible for fabricating and circulating false reports about its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
