In a surprising political development, Prophet Godwin Ikuru, the Pastor and Prophet of the Jehovah Eye Salvation Ministry, has officially announced his intention to contest the Lagos State Governorship election in 2027. This revelation marks a significant shift for the revered cleric, who has spent decades in religious service and philanthropy.

Prophet Ikuru, who has resided in Lagos State for over 27 years, believes his deep understanding of the state’s complexities and his extensive grassroots engagements make him uniquely qualified to lead. His philanthropic efforts have earned him widespread respect, as he has consistently provided support to vulnerable communities, empowered youths, and championed causes aimed at improving lives across the state.

In his announcement, the prophet highlighted his past political predictions, including the historic victory of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 elections. His spiritual insights also reportedly supported the elections of several governors, including those in Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Lagos, Imo, Edo, Delta State. He credits these accurate predictions and endorsements with inspiring him to take a more active role in governance.

“It’s not enough to foresee and support the right leaders,” Prophet Ikuru stated during a press briefing. “Now, I believe it’s time for me to step forward and offer myself for service. Lagos State deserves a leader with a heart for the people, a vision for progress, and the courage to make difficult decisions. By God’s grace, I am ready to take on this responsibility.”

Prophet Ikuru aims to run on a platform of inclusivity, transparency, and development. His proposed policies focus on addressing key challenges such as traffic congestion, housing deficits, youth unemployment, and healthcare. He also emphasizes the importance of bridging the gap between the government and the people to foster trust and collaboration.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions across political and religious circles. While some applaud his courage and vision, others question whether a religious leader can effectively transition into the demanding world of politics. However, Prophet Ikuru remains unfazed by the skepticism, insisting that his long-standing connection to Lagosians and his practical approach to problem-solving will resonate with voters.

With the 2027 general elections still years away, Prophet Ikuru’s declaration has undoubtedly added an interesting dimension to Lagos State’s political landscape. His next steps, including party affiliation and campaign strategy, will be closely watched as the race to Alausa gathers momentum.

As Lagosians anticipate the unfolding of this bold move, one thing is certain: Prophet Godwin Ikuru’s entry into the governorship race has set the stage for intriguing debates about leadership, governance, and the role of faith in politics.
