Police Arrest Suspected Murderer After Three-Month Manhunt in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of involvement in the murder of a resident in Karofin Madaki, Bauchi metropolis, after three months in hiding.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Habib said operatives attached to the ‘A’ Division, Township, arrested Abdulrazak Sale Kundang, also known as “Abba Sale Police”, on Monday, October 5, 2026, following credible information provided by a Good Samaritan.

According to the PPRO, the suspect was allegedly involved in the July 5 murder of 46-year-old Rilwanu Dauda of Karofi.

Habib said Dauda was attacked and allegedly stabbed with a knife by Sale and his gang members at about 9:30am.

The victim was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor at about 11am.

Following the incident, the police launched efforts to apprehend the suspects and placed them on the command’s watchlist.

Habib added that the suspects had previously been linked to a politically motivated murder in the same area before going into hiding.

He said the arrest followed intelligence received from a member of the public, which enabled operatives to locate and apprehend the principal suspect exactly three months after the alleged crime.

Police are continuing efforts to arrest the remaining suspects who are still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and resilience.

He assured residents that the command would continue to pursue suspected criminals and warned that “no criminal will have a hiding place in Bauchi State.”

The commissioner also directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and that the suspect be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
