2027: Ido/Ibarapa East PDP Backs Ogundoyin’s Governorship Ambition

The governorship ambition of Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, gained fresh momentum on Monday as stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency openly declared their support for his 2027 bid.

The endorsement came at the end of a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Ido Local Government Area, which drew together party leaders, elders, elected officials, and grassroots mobilisers from both Ido and Ibarapa East local government areas. The gathering focused on assessing the current state of the party within the constituency, addressing internal challenges, and charting a strategic course ahead of the 2027 general elections.

After extensive deliberations, the stakeholders unanimously backed Ogundoyin’s governorship aspiration, describing him as a seasoned legislator and a bridge-builder with a strong understanding of governance. They noted that his leadership experience as Speaker and his grassroots political network position him as a viable candidate capable of consolidating on the developmental strides already recorded in Oyo State.

The stakeholders further pledged to mobilise party members and supporters across the federal constituency, emphasising the need for unity, loyalty, and coordinated grassroots engagement to ensure the PDP remains dominant in the state. They stressed that early alignment behind a credible aspirant would strengthen the party’s chances in the forthcoming election cycle.

In his remarks, Ogundoyin formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, stating that his decision was guided by a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to serve the people at a higher level. He reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, youth empowerment, infrastructural development, and policies that would enhance socio-economic growth across the state.

He also used the opportunity to appreciate party leaders and stakeholders for their continued support, assuring them that his ambition would be pursued with consultation, respect for party structures, and a focus on collective interest. His declaration was met with resounding approval, with many attendees expressing confidence in his ability to lead the state effectively.

The meeting had in attendance several prominent PDP stakeholders from Ido Local Government, including Mallam Yusuf Muili, Alhaji Akinsola Ayuba, Alhaji Kamarudeen Aderibigbe, Hon. Akano Mathew Kayode, Baba Isau Alabanla, Hon. Rasak Mabaje, the Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo, Barr. Olayemi Olusina, Alhaji Musibau Emiola, Commodore Rasak Babalola, Alhaji Diekola (Abule), Pastor S.A. Akintokun, and Alhaji Simiyu Laani.

From Ibarapa East Local Government, notable attendees included the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, Prince Abiodun Olabiyi, Hon. Yemi Taiwo, Hon. Adewuyi Ojoawo, Hon. Dimeji Oladapo, Chief Kamorudeen Adeyemi, Mrs. Yetunde Adebisi, Barr. Sunday Adekanbi, Alhaji Ganiyu Aderibigbe, Prince Wole Opadeye, the Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, Chief Sunday Abegunde, Aremo John Adeleke, and Hon. Gbenga Obalowo.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by party stakeholders to strengthen internal cohesion, resolve lingering differences, and work collectively towards ensuring electoral success for the PDP in 2027. Participants emphasised that sustained unity and strategic mobilisation would be critical in maintaining the party’s stronghold in the state and delivering victory at the polls.
