Lagos to Launch First International Cultural Festival ‘Afropolis 2024’ on October 26

The Lagos State Government, in partnership with QDance Centre, is set to launch the inaugural International Cultural Festival, “Afropolis 2024,” on October 26. The nine-day event, themed “We Need New Myth,” will highlight African cultures from across Nigeria and beyond, with activities taking place at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, Lagos Island.

The festival will bring together artists and visitors from several countries, including Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia, Brazil, the Netherlands, and the US, as part of an international celebration of arts, creativity, and innovation. Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, described Afropolis as a groundbreaking event aimed at showcasing Lagos’s rich cultural heritage and creative spirit.

Scheduled activities include a VIP preview and cocktail on October 26, a carnival procession through Lagos Island on October 27, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s tour of the J. Randle Centre on October 28. The festival will feature daily films, art installations, and performances, culminating in a grand finale Afro House and EDM Rave on November 3.
