Many Feared Dead as Helicopter Crashes in Ondo

Several people are feared dead after a helicopter crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday.

The helicopter reportedly crashed in a swampy area within the community, making access to the site difficult.

A local source said the number of casualties could not immediately be confirmed but indicated that some occupants of the helicopter were feared dead.

According to the source, residents heard a loud sound from the area but were unable to reach the crash site because it was located within a creek.

Police and military personnel were later deployed to the area as rescue efforts got underway.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command was aware of the reported aircraft crash in the Igbokoda axis of Ilaje Local Government Area.

He said details of the incident were still emerging as authorities worked to establish what happened.

The police urged residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information.

The command said the public would be provided with further details as soon as credible information becomes available.
