A civil rights advocacy group has thrown its weight behind the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, Olohundare Jimoh, urging the public to allow the courts to determine the ongoing murder cases involving Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye.
The group made the call during a solidarity visit to the senior police officer, dismissing what it described as a campaign of misinformation aimed at undermining his role in the investigation of the high-profile killings while he served as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
According to the group, Sheriff Ishola Salami was murdered on April 18, 2023, while Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiranland, was killed on August 26, 2024, in Ajiran Community, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The activists said AIG Jimoh, after assuming office as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, on February 18, 2025, approved an investigation into a petition filed by Olarotimi Williams Chambers seeking the arrest and prosecution of those allegedly responsible for the killings.
They said the investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, who allegedly made confessional statements implicating themselves and identifying the alleged sponsor of the attacks.
The group further claimed that the investigation resulted in the police declaring Lagos businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, also known as Ahmed Ajiran or Hamed Tajudeen, wanted before he was later arrested in the Benin Republic.
While alleging that there were attempts to interfere with the investigation and halt the prosecution, the group commended the police for remaining professional and ensuring that the matter proceeded in accordance with the law.
It noted that the case is now before a court of competent jurisdiction and refrained from commenting on its merits, stressing that the matter is sub judice.
Expressing confidence in the judicial process, the group said justice should be allowed to take its course for the victims and their families. It also described AIG Jimoh as a disciplined and professional officer who upheld the integrity of the investigation throughout his tenure as Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
The group urged the public to ignore what it described as misleading narratives surrounding the case and allow the court to reach its verdict based on the evidence before it.
