It was an evening of emotion, gratitude and celebration on February 13, 2026, as eminent personalities gathered at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, to honour 15 distinguished retired police officers for over three decades of exemplary and patriotic service.
The maiden appreciation ceremony, held at the SCID complex in Panti, celebrated the professionalism, discipline and commitment demonstrated by the officers throughout their active years in service.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, DCP Dayo Akinbisehin, commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, for approving the participation of the Police Band, which added colour and prestige to the historic gathering. He noted that the contributions, ideas and sacrifices of the retired officers during their years of service had left an enduring legacy within the command.
Akinbisehin acknowledged the retirees’ discipline, integrity, courage and unwavering dedication to national security, describing them as role models for younger officers. He emphasised that their commitment to duty significantly strengthened policing structures and public trust in Lagos State.
Family members, colleagues, associates and well-wishers turned out in large numbers to celebrate the honourees, expressing pride in their years of meritorious service. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as tributes poured in for the retirees.
Addressing journalists, the retired officers expressed gratitude to God for what they described as a “safe landing” after about 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.
One of the retirees, CSP Charles Akinrosoye (Rtd), former Officer-in-Charge of Legal at the Lagos State Police Command, called for continuous professional training and improved government funding for the police, stressing the need to equip officers for modern-day, technology-driven policing.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, Hon. Bayo Adefuye, described the retirees as “pillars of discipline and guardians of public trust.” He urged them to channel their wealth of experience into community policing initiatives, noting that effective collaboration between citizens and security agencies remains critical to tackling contemporary security challenges.
The event attracted people from all walks of life, including captains of industry, senior police officers and other eminent personalities, with DCP Akinbisehin serving as Chief Host.
Gifts were presented to the retirees as a mark of appreciation for their service to humanity and the nation. The high point of the ceremony was a colourful celebration marked by music and dance in honour of the celebrants, bringing the memorable evening to a joyful close.
