Super Falcons Seal 2026 WAFCON Qualification Despite Draw with Benin

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have officially qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after securing a 3-1 aggregate win over Benin Republic, despite a 1-1 draw in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Defender Ashley Plumptre scored her first goal for Nigeria in the 13th minute, while Yasminath Djibril equalized for Benin in the second half.

With a solid 2-0 first-leg advantage from Lome, the 10-time African champions maintained composure to book their place in Morocco 2026.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made key saves as the Falcons fended off Benin’s late attacks, while Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Esther Okoronkwo led Nigeria’s charge upfront.

The victory gives Nigeria a chance to defend their continental title and target an 11th WAFCON crown, as well as qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
