A governorship aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua, has condemned the attack and burning of the party’s newly established state secretariat in Ado Ekiti, describing it as a “desperate act of political cowardice and intimidation.”
David-Adesua, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, was an attempt to disrupt the inauguration of ADC executives across the state. Hoodlums were reported to have vandalised properties and attacked party members during the assault.
“This attack is not merely against a building, but against the democratic will of Ekiti people who seek freedom from tyranny and misrule,” David-Adesua stated.
He vowed that the party would not be intimidated or deterred by acts of violence, saying the ADC remained committed to its mission to “Rescue, Rebuild, and Rise” stronger.
“Let it be clear — no amount of destruction or deceit will break our resolve. From these ashes, we shall rebuild and restore the dignity of our people. We will confront corruption with courage, tyranny with truth, and fear with faith,” he added.
The ADC aspirant further described the party’s movement as “people-driven, unstoppable, and divinely anchored,” assuring supporters that the attack would only strengthen their resolve to reclaim Ekiti’s destiny.
Also reacting, former Minister of Interior and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, who was in Ekiti for the inauguration, condemned the incident, calling it “a shameful display of intolerance and a dangerous threat to democracy.”
“It is regrettable that individuals who emerged through the democratic process can resort to violence and intimidation to suppress opposition voices. The beauty of democracy lies in freedom of association and peaceful political participation,” Aregbesola said.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Police Command confirmed that it had launched a high-level investigation to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 20, 2026, for the Ekiti State governorship election.
