Oyelade Commends Oyo Teachers, Hails Makinde’s Education Reforms

IBADAN, October 6, 2025: Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has praised teachers across the state for their dedication, professionalism, and contributions to the advancement of education, describing them as “standing tall” in their duties.

Oyelade gave the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Oyo State wing of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ibadan, as part of activities marking the 2025 World Teachers’ Day.

The Commissioner, who led top officials from the Ministry of Information, lauded the teachers for their steadfastness and partnership with the state government, particularly acknowledging their support during the launch of his book, “Know Oyo State.”

He emphasized the critical role of teachers in shaping future leaders, saying their work remains central to developing capable and responsible citizens.

Oyelade also applauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his sweeping education reforms, which he said have doubled the state’s teaching workforce from 13,730 in 2019 to 26,436 in 2025. He added that more than 10,500 teaching and non-teaching staff have been employed in the last six years to boost academic performance and improve living standards.

Quoting the National President of the NUT, the Commissioner noted that nearly 195,000 teachers are still needed nationwide, adding, “If all states employ as many as Oyo, the shortage wouldn’t have arisen.”

According to him, Governor Makinde’s administration has also created four new educational zones with full administrative structures, while 2,000 additional teachers have been absorbed into the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) to enhance efficiency.

In his response, the NUT Chairman, Comrade Raji Oladimeji, expressed appreciation to the governor for his commitment to improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the education sector. He also commended Oyelade for the visit, describing him as the first Commissioner for Information to pay such a visit to the union’s state office.
