Nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have suspended their indefinite strike following the direct intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The suspension was announced in a joint statement signed by the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, and issued in Ibadan on Friday.
The health workers had downed tools in September 2025 over welfare concerns and poor working conditions. Their demands were addressed after Governor Makinde personally visited the hospital on Wednesday, where he met with management, staff, and professional associations.
During the visit, Makinde approved a ₦35 million increase in the hospital’s monthly subvention and ordered a phased payment of outstanding promotion and minimum wage arrears. He also directed the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital system to promote fairness and inclusivity.
The governor further pledged to constitute a Governing Council for the institution without delay and reaffirmed his commitment to completing the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo before the end of his tenure.
In their resolution, the nurses hailed Makinde as a “compassionate and visionary leader” whose swift actions restored their confidence in the system.
“The Congress of nurses and midwives held on Friday, October 3, 2025, formally resolved to suspend the strike, with full services resuming immediately,” the statement read.
They added that the governor’s intervention not only resolved immediate welfare issues but also laid a stronger foundation for sustainable institutional growth.
“Governor Makinde has once again demonstrated that he is a leader tested, trusted, and attuned to the needs of his people,” the nurses noted.
