Ibadan, Oyo State – The Oyo State chapter of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) New Era has congratulated Oba (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja on his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, describing the event as a momentous occasion in Yoruba history.
In a statement released in Ibadan and signed by the State Chairman of OPC New Era, Comrade Rotimi Olumo, the group lauded the coronation ceremony as a “grand and spiritually significant event” that signals a new chapter for the ancient city.
“The coronation of my revered father, Oba (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, has begun in grandeur and divine blessings,” Olumo stated.
He emphasized that the event holds significance beyond Ibadan alone, describing it as a celebration of Yoruba heritage, dignity, and people-oriented leadership. Olumo hailed Oba Ladoja as a selfless leader of integrity, a seasoned politician, and a man with a heart of gold.
Highlighting Oba Ladoja’s vast political experience, including his tenure as the former governor of Oyo State, Olumo expressed confidence in the monarch’s ability to steer Ibadanland towards peace, unity, and development.
“We are confident that Oba Ladoja’s reign will bring about unprecedented progress, peace, and unity in Ibadanland. His wealth of experience will be instrumental in fostering inclusive development and cultural pride,” he added.
The OPC New Era also noted that the coronation ceremony is expected to attract a host of dignitaries, including the possible presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—an indication of the national significance of the Olubadan institution.
The group described Oba Ladoja’s ascension as more than a royal installation, calling it a reaffirmation of Ibadan’s cultural legacy and traditional governance system. They expressed optimism that his reign will usher in a renewed era of community engagement and cultural preservation.
Oba Rashidi Ladoja, a respected elder statesman and politician, assumes the throne as the 44th Olubadan, following the city’s long-standing chieftaincy tradition that emphasizes merit and seniority.
