Murray-Bruce: Nigeria Safe if WWIII Breaks Out

Ben Murray-Bruce Predicts Global War, Says Nigeria Will Remain Safe

LAGOS, Nigeria – June 20, 2025
Nigerian businessman and former senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has raised concerns over the possibility of a global conflict, warning that World War III may be on the horizon due to rising international tensions, increasing nuclear armament, and the presence of volatile world leaders.

Speaking during an interview with global affairs expert Dane Waters on Tuesday, Murray-Bruce expressed fears that the world is inching toward a catastrophic war that could impact multiple regions. However, he expressed confidence that Nigeria—and Africa as a whole—would be spared from its worst effects.

“We’re in big trouble, and as long as we have the kind of leaders we have in the world today, I see World War III coming, and it’s going to be terrible,” Murray-Bruce said.

The founder of Silverbird Group argued that Nigeria’s peaceful diplomatic stance and lack of nuclear ambitions make it an unlikely target in the event of global warfare.

“Nobody is going to be fighting in Nigeria because we have no territorial ambitions, we have no desire to acquire nuclear weapons, we don’t want to fight anybody. We’re friends with all our West African neighbours,” he stated.

The former lawmaker, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, suggested that Nigeria could even become a haven for displaced populations fleeing the devastation of a future war.

“If there’s a World War III and the rest of the world is destroyed, we’ll be happy to welcome Americans, Israelis, and Iranians to Nigeria. But we’ll make sure you all have your visas—we don’t want you to come as immigrants. We’ll treat you well as visitors,” he said.

Murray-Bruce attributed the looming threat of war to poor global leadership, noting the rise of authoritarian and reckless leaders worldwide.

“I think we have a lot of trigger-happy leaders across the world, and because they are trigger-happy, they don’t care,” he said. “We have a lot of despots and crazy people. So, war is inevitable. It goes back to 1945, 1939, and 1917—the First World War, Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War. As long as we keep electing such people into leadership positions, this is what we’re going to get.”

His comments come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Iran, fueling global concerns about the potential for a wider conflict.
