The Oyo State House of Assembly has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to review and increase the Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) paid to civil and public servants in the state. The motion, jointly sponsored by Hon. S.A. Onaolapo and Hon. M.O. Abiola, was presented during Tuesday’s plenary session.
The lawmakers emphasized that the current DTA structure, last revised in 2008, no longer aligns with today’s economic realities, particularly given the rising inflation rates. They expressed concern that the inadequacy of the allowance may negatively affect workers’ motivation, commitment, and productivity. The House also warned that failure to update the DTA could encourage corruption and dissatisfaction within the civil service.
Highlighting recent developments, the motion noted that the National Council on Establishment introduced a new DTA framework at the federal level in 2024, which has already been adopted. In light of this, the Assembly urged Governor Makinde to approve an upward review of the DTA for all categories of civil and public servants in Oyo State.
Additionally, the House recommended that the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Civil Service Commission adopt the National Assembly’s updated DTA scale for political, legislative staff, and other officials.
The motion further called on the House Committee on Establishments and Training to collaborate with relevant agencies to develop a harmonized and sustainable DTA framework for the state.
