CELEBRATING OUR RICH HERITAGE: ONIGBONGBO LCDA MARKS 2025 WORLD HERITAGE DAY

World Heritage Day, celebrated annually on April 18th, aims to promote cultural and natural heritage world wide. It highlights importance of promoting our heritage for future generations.

The Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area(LCDA) , under the leadership of Barr Rekiyah Olufunke Hassan, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism , celebrated World Heritage Day on Friday April 18th 2025.

The event was held at the council secretariat’s new hall.

The council vice chairman Hon. Taofik Ayinla Olorunfunmi, representing the council chairperson delivered an opening remarks, stating ” Today , we gather to celebrate our rich cultural heritage and reaffirm our commitment to preserving it for future generations.

This event is a testament to our community”s dedication to promoting awareness and appreciation of our heritage.

The event featured a colorful display of Onigbongbo ‘s rich cultural heritage, including the EGUNGUN MASQUERADE Performance led by Chief Najeem Anifowoshe”Eleko Of Onigbongbo” .

HRM Oba Oluwasegun Adeyemi Ajasa Olaside1″Awuse Of Onigbongbo Kingdom” in his remarks emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage, encouraging the community to teach our younger generations about their customs and traditions.

He said we should not allow civilization to wipe out our culture. “As traditional rulers, and custodians of our heritage, it is our duty to protect our culture jealously” .He added.

HRM Oba Akingbola Olusesan Akinkunmi Kudoro 1″Olu Of Oregun Land” shared his personal experience , stating “Despite my longer stay abroad, where i lived, studied, and had my children, I still teach them and make them value our culture and heritage, I was born and trained with culture and i advise all to handle our culture with care”.
