KOSOFE, LAGOS—April 16, 2025 — In a striking departure from conventional birthday fanfare, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, turned her celebration into a powerful civic action by leading a constituency-wide road show to raise awareness against drug abuse.
Themed “Say No to Drug Abuse, Say Yes to Life,” the campaign saw Hon. Ogbara crisscrossing the length and breadth of Kosofe in a vibrant and high-impact motorcade, directly engaging constituents with messages of hope, resilience, and the dangers of substance misuse.
Clad in symbolic campaign regalia, Mrs. Olusola Olungbemiga and the entire committee on war against drug abuse, accompanied by youth advocates, community leaders, and volunteers, the lawmaker delivered heartfelt speeches at key locations, passionately urging young Nigerians to resist the lure of narcotics and instead embrace education, entrepreneurship, and personal growth.
“Our youth are the heartbeat of this nation. We must protect them from the menace of drugs which threatens not just individual lives, but the future of our society,” she declared during a stop in Ketu. “Today is my birthday, but the gift I seek is a generation free from addiction.”
The response from the public was overwhelming. Residents of Kosofe lined the streets, waving banners and chanting anti-drug slogans. Many were visibly moved by the gesture, offering prayers and warm wishes to the lawmaker for her selfless act and visionary leadership.
“This is leadership at its finest,” said Mrs. Adesuwa Lawal, a local market leader. “Instead of throwing a party, she’s throwing a lifeline to our youth. May God bless her richly.”
Videos of the campaign quickly went viral across social media platforms, earning widespread praise and reinforcing Hon. Ogbara’s reputation as a principled, people-first leader with a passion for youth development and national reform.
This birthday initiative adds to her growing list of grassroots-driven interventions, underscoring her commitment to a drug-free Nigeria and her enduring vision for a healthier, more empowered Kosofe.
