Mexico Wins CONCACAF Nations League as Jimenez Seals Dramatic Victory

Raul Jimenez scored twice as Mexico clinched their first CONCACAF Nations League title with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Panama at SoFi Stadium on Sunday.

The Fulham striker, who had also netted a brace in the semi-final against Canada, sealed the win with a stoppage-time penalty after Panama’s Jose Cordoba conceded a handball.

However, the final was marred by controversy as match officials halted play due to homophobic chants from Mexican fans—a recurring issue in the tournament.

Jimenez praised coach Javier Aguirre for his leadership, attributing Mexico’s success to the veteran manager, who returned for his third stint in 2024.

The win was a heartbreak for Panama, who had stunned the USA in the semi-finals and hoped to secure their first international title since 1951.
