The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has concluded a two-day workshop in Lagos, focusing on critical issues in the ongoing constitution review.

The workshop, which ended late Friday, brought together Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and Majority Leaders from across the country to discuss necessary amendments to Nigeria’s constitution.

Key issues highlighted during the sessions included federal restructuring, local government autonomy, revenue allocation, human rights protection, economic and social rights, state policing, electoral and judicial reforms, and gender equality.

Day two of the workshop featured expert presentations on topics such as “Key Issues in the 2025 Constitution Review,” “A History of Constitution Reviews in Nigeria,” “Fiscal Federalism and Local Government Autonomy,” and “Collaboration Between the National and State Assemblies in Constitution Reviews.”

Prof. Abiodun Amuda-Kannike (SAN) of NILDS and Prof. Adetunji Ogunyemi of OAU emphasized the need for well-structured reforms to address governance challenges. They urged state legislatures to play an active role in ensuring amendments reflect the aspirations of all Nigerians.
