DOUBLE HONOUR FOR EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP: THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ECONOMISTS OF NIGERIA (ICEN), LAGOS STATE CHAPTER, BESTOWS UPON BARRISTER REKIYAH OLUFUNKE HASSAN AN AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP AND THE HIGHEST HONOUR OF FELLOW CHARTERED ECONOMIST OF NIGERIA (FCE)

On Wednesday, 19th March, the Lagos State Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN) paid a courtesy visit to the Chairperson of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Barrister Rekiyah Olufunke Hassan. The purpose of this visit was to present her with an Award for Exceptional Leadership and to confer upon her the highest honour of the institute—Fellow Chartered Economist of Nigeria (FCE).

Led by Professor Yusuf Abidemi Sopeyin, the delegation sought to acknowledge the Chairperson’s outstanding contributions to leadership and governance. Additionally, they used the opportunity to inform her of the forthcoming National Conference of ICEN, scheduled to take place in Lagos on 26th July 2025, where she is expected to serve as Chairperson.

The visit commenced with an introduction of ICEN members by Mr. Adeleke James, the South-West Regional Coordinator, followed by an opening address delivered by the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. AbdulWasiu Olabisi Anifowoshe.

In her acceptance speech, Barrister Rekiyah Hassan expressed profound gratitude for the double honour, stating that it serves as both recognition and motivation to further her commitment to excellence in governance. She reflected on the immense responsibility that accompanies great honour, quoting the timeless adage: “To whom much is given, much is expected.”

Furthermore, she announced that Onigbongbo LCDA will collaborate with the institute, fostering a partnership that will contribute to economic growth and development within the council area.

The visit concluded with closing remarks by the Honourable Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Igbafe Glory, marking a distinguished occasion of recognition, partnership, and commitment to exemplary leadership.
