ONIGBONGBO LCDA UNIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT MUSLIM STAFF ASSOCIATION HOLDS 7TH ANNUAL RAMADAN LECTURE ON THE THEME: “PURIFYING OUR INTENTIONS AND ACTIONS”

The Onigbongbo Local Government Muslim Staff Association successfully hosted its 7th annual Ramadan lecture on Tuesday, March 18th, at the council secretariat’s new hall.

This year’s theme, “Purifying Our Intentions and Actions,” deeply resonated with attendees, inspiring reflection on sincerity in faith and practice.

The esteemed event was graciously hosted by the Council Chairperson, Barrister Rekiyah Olufunke Hassan, alongside the Council Manager, Mr. Osineye Abiodun.

Dignitaries present included the Mother of the Day, Alhaja Aminat Iyabode Akerele, APC Party Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA. The Guest of Honour, Hon. Prince Seyi Lawal, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikeja Constituency 1, also graced the occasion.

Additionally, distinguished personalities such as Mr. Tayo Akinmade Ayinde, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, were in attendance. Traditional rulers present included His Royal Majesty, Oba Oluwasegun Adeyemi Ajasa Olaside I, the Awuse of Onigbongbo Kingdom, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Olusesan Akinkunmi Akingbola Kudoro I, the Olu of Oregun Kingdom.

The Spiritual Father of the Day was Alhaji Imam AbdulJeleel Bolaji Oseni, Chairman of the League of Imams in Onigbongbo LCDA and Chief Imam of Oregun Central Mosque. The event commenced with an opening prayer by Alfa Alaluborida, followed by a Quranic recitation by Ustaz Musiliudeen.

In his welcome address, the Branch Ameer, Alhaji Saheed Oderongbe, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the late council chairman, Hon. Dotun Olakanle, for his contribution to the development of a befitting mosque, offering prayers for his soul to rest in peace. He also extended his appreciation to Barrister Rekiyah Hassan and her administration for their unwavering support in ensuring the success of the Ramadan lecture.

In her opening remarks, Barrister Rekiyah Hassan emphasized the significance of Ramadan as a time for love, unity, and spiritual growth. She underscored the importance of Zakat (charity) and sincere repentance from bad habits. Encouraging attendees to embrace kindness and compassion during this sacred month, she called upon everyone to uphold the core values of Islam.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Sheikh Al-Imam Qomardeen Yunus Akorede, who expounded on the theme, “Purifying Our Intentions and Actions.” He passionately highlighted the necessity of sincerity in worship and good deeds. He urged attendees to cultivate love for one another, engage in secret charity (Sadaqah), and shun hypocrisy and ostentation. He reminded all that acts of goodness done merely for human recognition hold no value before Allah, reinforcing the need for genuine devotion and sincerity in faith.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Taofeeq Olorunfunmi, who expressed gratitude to all attendees for their participation and support.

The 7th Annual Ramadan Lecture was a remarkable occasion, leaving a lasting impact on all present, reinforcing the importance of sincerity, charity, and spiritual purification during the holy month of Ramadan.
