The Chairperson of Onigbongbo LCDA, Barrister Rekiyah Olufunke Hassan, made a distinguished appearance as a special guest at the Women’s Family Membership Development Committee’s event in commemoration of International Women’s Day on Tuesday, 11th March.
Held at De Vine Plus Hall, Abel Oreniyi Street, Opebi, Lagos, the event was organised by Lions International District 404B2 Nigeria under the theme “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality.”
In her goodwill message, Barrister Rekiyah Hassan expressed profound appreciation for Lion Tolulope Sebanjo, the District Governor and the youngest to hold such a position in Africa, as well as for the esteemed speakers who graced the occasion.
She was particularly moved by the insightful words of Honourable Oyindamola Adegoke, who underscored the necessity for women to believe in themselves, acknowledge their capabilities, and strive not merely to be heard but to be seen.
Barrister Hassan delivered a compelling call to action, advocating for the empowerment of young girls, the dismantling of harmful stereotypes, and the recognition of women’s invaluable contributions to society. She emphasised that when women rise, communities flourish, and she urged the audience to stand resolutely against discrimination.
Her concluding remarks were a simple yet profoundly impactful tribute to the strength and resilience of women.
In recognition of her unwavering dedication to gender equality and her outstanding service to the community, Barrister Rekiyah Hassan was honoured with the Excellence in Performance Award by Lions Club District 404B2 Nigeria.
Additionally, the District Governor personally presented her with a prestigious award, further acknowledging her remarkable contributions to societal development and the advancement of women.
