The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who in response vowed to intensify efforts in governance.
Speaking at the 13th NEC meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Tinubu described the endorsement as a challenge to do more work. He emphasized plans to enhance food security, attract investment, and drive national development.
The NEC meeting, which is the second under Tinubu’s administration and the first under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, reviewed the party’s activities over the last 20 months and strategized on tackling emerging challenges.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and former Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande were among those present.
The committee resolved to zone the APC’s national chairmanship to the Northwest, a decision that may affect the aspirations of party members from the North Central region. Additionally, it approved audited financial statements for 2022 and 2023, ratified the 2024 budget, and reviewed the 2025 budget.
Ganduje revealed that he inherited an N8.9 billion debt from the previous NWC led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu. Meanwhile, Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic recovery, noting a gradual stabilization of food prices as Ramadan approaches.
He commended APC governors and National Assembly members for their cooperation, urging party leaders to reconcile internal conflicts. A seven-member committee, led by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, was set up to review NEC membership and expand party structures.
The motion for the confidence vote was moved by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, who highlighted Tinubu’s achievements in infrastructure, security, and economic reforms. Former APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole seconded the motion, expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.
