Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede has urged his team to take another step toward securing their first Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title as they prepare to face Nasarawa United in a match-day 26 encounter on Wednesday.
Currently leading the league table with 51 points, the Ikenne-based club holds a 10-point advantage over closest challengers, Shooting Stars (3SC). With another away victory, they could further tighten their grip on the title race.
Following 3SC’s 2-2 draw against Lobi Stars last Wednesday, Remo Stars took full advantage with a 2-0 victory over Kwara United, extending their lead at the top. Ogunmodede described the win as one of their best performances this season and set his sights on their next target.
“One of the best games we have played so far. We played well and fought for everything to get what we wanted. Did we arrive at 51 points? The next goal is 54! Can we do it?” he asked his players, who responded in the affirmative.
Their next opponents, Nasarawa United, currently sit in the relegation zone with 27 points, having won just once in their last five matches. Ogunmodede believes his team can take advantage of their struggles.
“It’s possible; we can capitalize on their situation,” the coach said.
Reflecting on their last game, Ogunmodede admitted his team played under pressure after learning of 3SC’s result but managed to keep their composure.
“We were tense before the game, but we didn’t want the world to know. The boys didn’t show it either, though we were unlucky not to have scored more, hitting the crossbar twice in the first half. Eventually, our persistence paid off.”
While enjoying their current momentum, the coach emphasized that the title race is far from over.
“The focus is the next match. The title race will go down to the end of the season.”
Remo Stars have come close to winning the NPFL in the last two seasons, losing on goal difference to Enyimba in 2023 before finishing second behind Rangers International last season.
With history within reach, Ogunmodede’s men are determined to go all the way and finally lift the NPFL trophy.
