Oyo Lawmakers Call for The Establishment of More Fire Stations

The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the executive arm of government to establish more fire stations across the state to enhance emergency response services.

The motion, titled “Need for the Executive Arm of Government to Establish More Fire Stations Across Oyo State for Quick Response to Fire Emergencies and Rescue Services,” was sponsored by the Leader of the House, Hon. S.O. Onaolapo, and co-sponsored by Hon. B.O. Adeola, Hon. B.G. Adebayo, and Hon. A.O. Omikunle.

Hon. Onaolapo highlighted the devastating impact of fire outbreaks, which have resulted in significant losses for individuals and businesses, citing the recent fire incident at Kosobo, Oyo.

He urged the state government to ensure that each federal constituency has at least one fully equipped fire station and to allocate necessary funds for the procurement of modern fire trucks to enhance emergency response efforts.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola noted that the procurement of new firefighting trucks in Oyo State was long overdue, adding that the last major purchase of such equipment was during the administration of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.

In his remarks, Hon. O.T. Kehinde stressed the need for proper maintenance and management of fire service equipment to ensure efficient emergency response and fire safety across the state.
