The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued an official press release regarding the leadership dispute within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), following a recent Supreme Court ruling.
During its meeting on Tuesday, 17th December 2024, INEC reviewed the legal judgment concerning the leadership crisis that has plagued APGA. The Commission confirmed it had received the Supreme Court’s decision on the matter, specifically the judgement in Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024, APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS, delivered on 27th November 2024.
The apex court’s decision affirmed Barrister Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the rightful Chairman of APGA. In adherence to this ruling, INEC announced the immediate restoration of Barrister Ezeokenwa’s leadership. Furthermore, his name has been updated accordingly on the Commission’s official website to reflect this compliance.
The press release, signed by Mr. Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information & Voter Education Committee, underscores INEC’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting judicial authority in party leadership matters.
This development marks a significant resolution to the prolonged leadership dispute within APGA and ensures the party’s compliance with Nigeria’s legal framework.
