The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has abolished the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development, according to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to the president, on Wednesday. The decision was made during a council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) will now take over responsibilities previously managed by the sports ministry. Additionally, a newly established Ministry of Regional Development will oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission (NWDC), South West Development Commission (SWDC), and North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy to streamline operations.
Earlier, President Tinubu swore in Abdullahi Bello as the new chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). Bello stated his commitment to combatting corruption and upholding ethical standards in line with the bureau’s mandate.
